Early gut microbiota

This study investigated cattle foetuses at 5, 6 and 7 months for the presence of bacterial communities.  Samples were taken from the amniotic fluid, ruminal fluid, ruminal tissue, caecal fluid, caecal tissue and meconium. Bacteria were cultured, subcultured, sequenced and identified and results indicate that initial colonisation of the GIT can occur before 5 months gestation.
